What did technical consultants say during series development back then? What kinds of capabilities did they suggest Vicki embody? Could we really build one in the 1980s? How would it work? How much? There were several such advisors for the pilot contributing in personal interviews and over the phone, and their summations surprised the production staff. Rather than lend you a dry rendition of their input, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and wrote a little presentation which implies how this brain-trust viewed the possibility of a real V.I.C.I. in the format of what a top talk show debut of one would actually be like.
Doing it this way was prone to slipping into outrageous parody, but I decided to play it straight as how I believe such an introduction of a Vicki would've occurred in real life. In an odd way, this makes the ambience even more unreal. Let me know via Vicki's Cabinet what you think. Note: The underlined text links in the transcript list those Small Wonder episodes in which the terms were used. Because producers don't have to take the advice technical consultants offer them, they often abuse terms and technical accuracy and warp them out of context and purpose for "dramatic" effect. You'll note some surprises. A good example of this is the omission of Vicki's panel below. Remember this if they don't sync with the show. Also, the technical concepts mentioned here are, to my knowledge, unique by the series' specific consultations, so if they pop up anywhere after this posting you know where they came from!
Note: To the teleplay writer who skims/scoops/gleans and plain rips off this stuff and makes a mint off the production: How about dropping a little note about this page as token compensation, please?
