(daughter of Noah & Mary Blosser) d4/21/1943- Burial: Midway Cem.,near Columbiana,OH - Lehman, David, son of the late Christian and Susan Lehman, was born south of Columbiana, O., Oct. 6, 1851; died at his residence on Columbiana and East Lewistown Road on May 1, 1940, following an illness of over two years; aged 88 y. 6 m. 25 d. He was united in marriage to Salinda Blosser, Sept. 4, 1879, and there were born to this union three sons (Homer, Columbiana, O.; Clarence, Goshen, Ind.; and Elmer at home), three daughters (Mrs. Lewis Cletzly, Waterford, Pa.; Mrs. Arthur Duncan, Canton, O.; and Effie at home). There also survive 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, together with three brothers (John, Jacob, and Henry) and one sister (Mrs. Anna Miller). Bro. Lehman united with the Mennonite Church in May 1889, and about five years after, July 22, 1894, he was called to the ministry and ordained to serve the Leetonia Mennonite Church. In his going home to be with the Lord the churches of this district, as well as the Conference of which he was a member, have lost a consecrated and talented worker. He was a clear thinker and possessed the ability to drive arguments and truth home to the hearts of his people in an effective way. He was active and usually took his turn to preach until a few years ago when failing health necessitated his retirement from active service. Part of his illness was accompanied with considerable distress and pain, but he bore his afflictions patiently and through it all he was able to retain a good memory and clear mind, even to the last few hours of his life. The text, I Co. 15: 57, 58, gives the sequel of his assurance and faith in his Redeemer and enabled him quietly and peacefully to fall asleep with the blessed hope and assurance to be at rest with the Lord. Funeral services were held at the Midway Church in charge of the home ministers, A. J. Steiner, Paul Yoder, I. B. Witmer, S. A. Yoder, and David C. Steiner. The following visiting ministers also took part: I. W. Royer, I. J. Buchwalter, E. F. Hartzler, and S. D. Rohrer. Burial in Midway Cemetery. (Gospel Herald vol.XXXIII, no.9, 5/30/1940, p190,191) - Lehman - On April 21, 1943, the life labors of Salina Blosser Lehman came to a peaceful close at the age of 91 y. 3 m. She was a daughter of the late Noah and Mary Blosser and was born on the Old Blosser homestead, Beaner Twp., Jan. 21, 1852. Her lifetime of almost 3 generations carried her though experiences dating back to the time of the Civil War. Due to her exceptional memory and clear mind, she was able to relate many interesting experiences over this long period of time. She spent her entire life in the community of her birth. She was united in marriage Sept. 4, 1879, to Bro. David Lehman who preceded her in death May 1, 1940. In this relation she proved herself a faithful companion and a loyal devoted mother to her children. During the faithful ministry of her husband, she willingly shared the extra burdens and gladly made needed sacrifices so that the work of the Lord and the Church could go on. She united with the Mennonite Church over 61 years ago. She possessed the happy faculty of maintaining a cheerful outlook on life and carried her smile to the very end, even during her sickness which was prolonged and accompanied by pain. There were born to this union 3 sons (Homer H., Columbiana, O.; Clarence E., Goshen, Ind.; Elmer at home) and 3 daughters (Mrs. Lewis (Alma) Kletzly, who died Jan. 28, 1943; Mrs. Arthur (Mamie) Duncan, who died May 5, 1940; Miss Effie, at home). Twelve grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a sister (Susan Blosser), and a brother (Warren Blosser) survive. Funeral services were conducted at the home and Midway Mennonite Church, April 24, 1943, in charge of Bro. A.J. Steiner, assisted by Bro. Paul Yoder. The text she had selected was the same as was used at the funeral of her husband, I Cor. 15:27. Burial in adjoining cemetery. (GOSPEL HERALD - Vol. XXXVI, No . 7 - May 13, 1943, p150, 151)

The original town of Foraker was named
after Senator Joseph B. Foraker of
Harding Co., Ohio and located on the land
of Samuel Yoder, which was located 1 mile
east and 1 mile south of the present
Foraker. The Chicago and Canada
Southern Railway bought land from Samuel
Yoder & Jonas Kauffman in
1872. Work was started on the
Wabash Railroad in 1891. In
1893, Samuel and Jonas died, never seeing
a train come through Foraker. The
railroad did not want to put the station
at Foraker, but a mile west and north, so
it was decided to move the town.
The new town of Foraker was also built on
land of Samuel Yoder once inhabited with
frogs the greater portion of the summer
season. The old Foraker consisted
of one store, which was built and
operated by Noah Yoder, son of Samuel
Yoder. In the spring of 1893, Noah
moved his store on a pair of skids and
with the use of horses from Old Foraker

Noah built and operated the only
store, a General Store, in the
old town of Foraker.
After the railroad decided to
build the train station a mile
north and a mile west, it was
decided that Foraker should be
moved to the new site. Noah
moved his store on a pair of
skids and with the use of horses
from Old Foraker to New
Foraker. Noah Kauffman then
took charge of the store.
Work trains began showing
up. On April 27, 1893, the
first freight train ran over the
Wabash--a west bound freight No.
97, had a few cars, old hand
brakes, link and pin couplers,
and a small engine. (My
great-great uncle Nils Svenson
invented the car coupler that is
still used today, see Mansson
Genealogy, Entry ?) On May
30, 1893, the first passenger
train Number 54 was run going
eastbound. Foraker Station
was opened the same year.
In 1893, buildings began to pop
up everywhere. Noah Yoder
erected a new store building on
the southwest corner of the
junction. Noah operated the
general merchandise store for
awhile as well as was postmaster
in the same building.
Another building was erected
against his store, and later on
Noah took possession of this
building, enlarged his store by
cutting a large door through the
walls between the buildings and
throwing both rooms into one
store. When Yoder sold out,
the door was blocked up and
became two stores again.
There were living quarters above
the store but we don't know if
Noah ever lived there.
Solomon Miller and Noah Yoder
were the main stays at Foraker in
its early history. Solomon
and Noah erected a building just
south of the little old harness
shop and after its completion,
they put in a stock of buggies
and wagons. Later, the
building was made into a
church. Another friend of
Noah's, John Detwiler, had a
blacksmith shop just north of the
railroad tracks on the west side
of Main Street. Detwiler
also put up the first dwelling
house which ended up being the
third house east of the
depot. John Detwiler and
John Blenis put up a cider mill
next to the blacksmith shop and
did an enormous business.
Later, they sold the business to
Noah Yoder who run the cider mill
two seasons and then sold out to
George Wernitz, who moved the
mill. Noah Yoder, John
Detwiler, Emmanuel Kime, Lorento
Kime, Earl Mishler, and Clarence
Mishler then moved to Kempster,
Wisconsin. (Sources: The

Those left to mourn her departure are: 1 brother, M. S. Hoover of Nappanee, Ind. (who died 40 hours later at the Elkhart General Hospital), 2 half brothers, David M. Hoover of Elkhart, and Ezra M. Since Mr. and Mrs. Weaver had no children they took an unusually thoughtful interest in their nephews and nieces, who will greatly miss her. The many Bible quotations learned throughout her life were a great comfort to her during her illness. On May 31 brief services were conducted at the home by Bro. William Ramer and further services were conducted at the Yellow Creek Frame Church by Bros. Virgil Weaver and Paul Hoover. Following this service the remains were taken to the home of Bro. John Horst of near Washingtonville, O. Here short services were conducted by Bro. W., son of John and Elizabeth (Reed)
Christophel, was born July 23, 1856, near
Wakarusa, Ind. About 53 years ago he was
converted, united with the Mennonite
Church, and became a member of the Yellow
Creek Congregation. On Jan. 18, 1885 he
was united in marriage to Anna Hoover of
Elkhart Co., Ind. To this union 3
children were born: Elizabeth (Mrs.
Leander Weldy) of Goshen, Elmer H.
(living at home) and Allen B., who
preceded him in death. On Jan. 11, 1893,
he was called to the ministry by his home
congregation which he served until called
home. In 1918 he was called to the office
of bishop, and was given the oversight of
the Nappanee, Salem, and Yellow Creek
congregations. As a minister and as a
bishop he always endeavored to render the
best possible service to the brotherhood
under his care. His constant desire was
to labor as a servant rather than as one
exercising authority, with the thought
that obedience should be rendered because
of faithful teaching and understanding of
the Word rather than because of harsh
discipline, desiring that the Church
might prosper and become more God-like.
It was often said of Bro. Christophel.
that when some one came to him for advice
the person always was given something
helpful and worth while. His chief
concern and burden was the welfare of the
churches in his charge, and he labored to
the end that they might prosper and live
in peace. He was a kind and loving father
and will be greatly missed by his many
friends and acquaintances. Only those who
knew him best could understand his
burdens and sorrows, as he devotedly and
unselfishly labored for the unity and
welfare of the church and community.
After an illness of but a few days
duration he peacefully fell to sleep Jan.
11, 1937; aged 80 y. 5 m. 19 d. His
companion preceded him Aug. 25, 1936. He
leaves his daughter (Elizabeth), a son
(Elmer), 3 grandchildren and 3 sisters
(Mrs. Hanna Smith, Mrs. Harriet Blosser,
and Sarah Christophel), all of near
Wakarusa. One granddaughter preceded him.

marriage to Jacob W. Christophel. To this
union were born 3 children: Elizabeth
(Mrs. Leander Weldy of Goshen, Ind.),
Elmer, living at home; and Allen B., who
preceded her in death four years ago. She
also leaves 3 grandchildren (Mrs. Frances

(Mildred Weldy) preceded her in death.
She leaves 1 sister (Mrs. B. L. Weaver of
Salem, Ohio) and 3 brothers (Michael S.
Hoover of Nappanee, Ind.; David M. Hoover
of Elkhart, Ind.; and Ezra M. Hoover of
New Paris, Ind.). She lived all her life
in the vicinity of her birth and for 45
years lived in the home where she died.
She united with the Yellow Creek
Mennonite Church about 55 years ago and
for 43 years shared with her husband the
duties of a minister and the last 18
years the additional duties which fall to
the bishop's wife. She had been ill for
about eight weeks but was bedfast only
ten days. During these days of distress
she was patient in her suffering, very
considerate of those who cared for her,
and was fully resigned to the course that
lay before her. She was a loving wife, a
kind mother, and will be missed by her
many friends and acquaintances. To those
who knew her best she was an unselfish
friend who was more interested in the
welfare of others than of her own, truly
exemplifying the truth expressed in the
motto "Others." Funeral
services were conducted at the home by
Jonas Loucks and at the Church by A. L.
Buzzard, S. C. Yoder, and D. A. Yoder. Burial

**FSiloam Cemetery, Wenger Cem., Brinzer Cem., Branger Cem., Zook Cem., Lehman Cem., Franklin Co., PA. Any of the preceding names apply to the same cemetery and is located on part of the original Martin Wenger G18 farm on Conochocheague Creek, about two miles north of the Memorial Square of Chambersburg, PA. It may be reached as follows (directions from Rod Heberlig): From the center of Chambersburg, travel north on Route 11 about 1.5 miles. Turn left onto Siloam Rd. Go .3 miles and turn right onto Airport Rd. Go about .1 to .2 miles and the cemetery is on the right between the houses located at 2894 and 2924 Airport Rd. The house currently at 2924 Airport Rd is on the land once owned by the church. Martin Wenger and his wives, Ann Gingerich and Catherine Funk, are buried here as well as Bishop Daniel Lehman. Abraham R. Wenger, son of Martin Wenger, inherited his father's farm and donated an area adjoining the cemetery to the Brinzer branch of the River Brethren Church for a meetinghouse. After that time, the cemetery became known as the Brinzer Cemetery. When the congregation became small, the Wenger Cemetery Association was given the right to dispose of the meetinghouse by the Franklin Co. Court. At one time, the property was owned by the Joseph Zook, 1787.3.3 1852.7.16 family and it was then called the Zook Cemetery. The money received for the building was added to the endowment fund for the care of the cemetery. The oldest marker is 1793. The original home and barn of Martin Wenger, G18, are visible about 1/4 mile NE from the cemetery when the leaves are off the trees. 145 graves. Families found in the cemetery are: Wenger, Zook, Lehman, Detwiler, Hoffman, Horst, Lesher, & Whisler, along with others. The name Siloam is due to the small hamlet of Siloam which is nearby. A detailed history of the cemetery is given in "Conococheague Mennonist," published by the Mennonite Historical Association of the Cumberland Valley, April 1997. The Association acquired the cemetery in 1996 and it is now cared for by a committee of three trustees, Titus Wadel G1471732131, a Mennonite; Avery Zook G13659522, a Brethren in Christ; and Oliver Heisey, an Old Order River Brethren. Titus and Avery are both Hans Wenger descendants and Oliver married a Hans Wenger descendant.
