A quirk of the city of Milwaukee's growth, The Pabst Brewery is less than a mile from the main yards in the valley, but the distance along the track is over 6 miles. The city grew so fast, that the railroad was economically unable to buy the downtown land to shorten the trip with a more direct route. Here is a pair of brand new EMD Switchers pulling a cut of cars from the Chestnut Street Line. Usually, Fairbanks Morse diesels work this line, so we were lucky to catch these locomotives on the transfer run from the breweries.
