New Photos:  2005

Hopping a freight train and finding yourself set out on a sidetrack in the middle of nowhere is really a problem.

Here's two old friends sharing some revelry after a late night/early morning breakfast.

Section crews are the "unglamorous" heroes of the "high iron,"  ,but without them, nothing would turn a wheel.

The "nut's and bolts" of railroading used to the "loose car" business.

"The Gap" between Othello and Avery was never electrified.  Here we see a SD9 leading "hot" freight 263 through the gap.  In all likelihood, it will continue to the coast without the use of election traction.

Steam makes a triumphant return to the river division.  The Great Circus Parade is always an exciting event and on the Milwaukee Road.

This sure-footed really has confidence in himself -- not hanging on to the handrails.  Don't try this on your locomotives at home, kiddies!

Milwaukee is a "sausage kind of town"  and Usingers and their sausage elves represent some of the finest.

When used as a verb, as in "Wabashing a freight car," it means to handle roughly.  We caught a patrol in the act, with a Wabash car no less!

Do you think the crew in the Milwaukee bayside caboose would love to join the men down by the river?

Oh I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener, that is what I'd truly like to be.  For if I were...

The life of a hobo is not for everyone.  Simple times around the campfire are good times.

Handcars like these are becoming things of the past.  I am sure these men would prefer to be riding in a motorized "speedy."
